On the occasion we run into projects that get into HVAC or Insulation there are specific rules regarding energy codes that must be followed. We see the three following reports as the most common with a brief explanation of each.
Comcheck: This is a commercial report developed by the Pacific Northwest Laboratory and the Department of Energy to make sure that commercial additions, alterations and new construction align with current energy codes. Using software such as Comcheck Web and Comcheck Desktop an easy to read report can be generated to ensure compliance with the newest IECC, ASHRAE, and any state specific or local energy specifications.
Rescheck: This report covers many residential projects of 3 stories or less above the earth. It can also be used for some multifamily of the same height. Additions, New Construction and Alterations are all covered by this type of report. The Department of Energy and Pacific Northwest Laboratory created softwares called Rescheck Web and Rescheck Desktop that generate a Rescheck report. If we disturb insulation in your construction project it might be required that you obtain a Rescheck on your project.
Manual J: This was developed to let people know the heat loss and heat gain of the structure. It is sanctioned by the ACCA or Air Conditioning Contractors of America. It uses specific climate data and insulation values of your structure to tell you the heat loss and heat gain of your structure in terms of the amount of BTUs you will need to heat and cool.
